The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has confirmed it completed the final power connection to the new Foodies food outlet in Machipisa, getting the branch fully energised in time for its grand opening on 1 August.
In a statement posted on social media, ZETDC said its teams worked swiftly to ensure the lights were on and the doors were open, congratulating Foodies and wishing the business success. Photos accompanying the announcement showed the branch’s newly finished storefront, with its black-and-yellow signage lit up as crowds gathered outside for the opening, balloons lining the entrance.
The Machipisa branch is the latest addition to the Foodies brand, which has been expanding across Harare as competition in the city’s fast-food and casual dining sector continues to grow. The business, co-founded by entrepreneur Tinashe Mutarisi and his son, first made its mark with an outlet in the Karigamombe Building in the city centre, at the corner of Julius Nyerere Way and Samora Machel Avenue, before extending into other parts of Harare. Mutarisi has said the brand was built on the idea that a restaurant can offer more than just food, describing Foodies as aiming to serve hope, inspiration, and a sense of belonging alongside its meals.
The Machipisa opening drew a large turnout, with crowds pictured gathered outside the branch as the doors opened on Friday. ZETDC’s social media post documenting the connection drew significant engagement online, with more than 13,000 reactions, 590 comments, and 12 shares at the time of writing, many from users asking about installation timelines and the branch’s exact location in Machipisa.
With the Machipisa branch now open, Foodies adds another outlet to its growing footprint in Harare, continuing its expansion in a city where demand for new dining options remains strong.
