The Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) has opened applications for two postgraduate traineeship positions based at its Coordination Centre in Harare, offering graduates from across the region a structured two-year opportunity to build capacity in the regional power sector.
SAPP, which was established in April 1995 under the SADC Treaty to coordinate regional electricity cooperation and optimise the use of energy resources among member states, is inviting applications from suitably qualified graduates for traineeships in two key areas: Markets, and Planning and Operations. The programme is designed as a structured development initiative aimed at equipping young professionals with practical skills and experience relevant to the region’s power sector.
For the Markets traineeship, applicants are required to hold a bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business Management, Commerce, or an equivalent qualification, with an Upper Second Class (2.1) or better. The Planning and Operations traineeship, meanwhile, requires a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification, also at Upper Second Class (2.1) level or higher.
Beyond academic qualifications, SAPP has set out a number of general requirements for all applicants. Candidates must be below 26 years of age at the time of application and are expected to demonstrate strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and good communication and interpersonal skills. High levels of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality are also required, along with a clear alignment with SAPP’s organisational values.
The traineeship opportunities are open to applicants from across the SAPP membership, including Angola, Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, reflecting the organisation’s regional mandate and commitment to developing talent across Southern Africa.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to undergo assessments and interviews as part of the selection process. Prospective applicants have been asked to submit a single PDF file containing an application letter specifying their area of interest, a curriculum vitae, certified academic and professional certificates, and a copy of a valid passport, with all documents listed as compulsory for a complete application.
Applications must be submitted by 17 July 2026 to the Executive Director, Southern African Power Pool, at 24 Golden Stairs Road, Emerald Hill, Harare, or via the organisation’s official email address. SAPP has also noted that any applicants currently serving the organisation in any capacity must declare this within their application, with the organisation reserving the right to consider such applications accordingly.
