The Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) on the 5 June 2025, celebrated a pivotal moment for the nation’s energy sector, as its Executive Chairman, Dr. Sydney Gata, officiated the graduation ceremony of 235 highly skilled students at the ZESA National Training Centre (NTC). This landmark event marked a significant infusion of expertise into Zimbabwe’s critical power industry, with graduates receiving qualifications in NC Electrical Engineering, ND in Power Plant Operations, and the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) Certificate in Line Construction.
A palpable sense of achievement filled the ZESA NTC campus as the graduating class, accompanied by jubilant ZESA management, celebrated their hard-earned certifications. The ceremony underscored a proud display of unity and encouragement for this new cohort of professionals ready to contribute to the country’s energy future. The diverse qualifications reflect ZESA’s commitment to addressing various facets of the power sector, from foundational electrical engineering to specialized plant operations and vital line construction.
The achievements of these 235 graduates were honoured in the distinguished presence of Dr. Gata, alongside Dr. C Chavunduka, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and The Built Environment at the University of Zimbabwe, and Mrs. D T Ruziwa, Principal of Harare Polytechnic. Senior ZESA management, key stakeholders, and members of the broader ZESA family also gathered to celebrate the next generation of experts powering Zimbabwe’s energy ambitions.
Adding to the celebratory atmosphere, the ZESA National Training Centre proudly announced the official launch of its Approved Training Organization (ATO) status. This critical recognition represents a bold leap forward in aligning ZESA NTC’s training standards with both national and international benchmarks. The ATO status empowers the centre to deliver industry-certified, competency-based training, ensuring that its graduates possess the precise skills required to meet the dynamic and evolving demands of Zimbabwe’s energy sector. This launch signifies a new era of excellence in technical education, reaffirming ZESA NTC’s unwavering commitment to building a skilled workforce essential for driving economic growth and supporting the nation’s Vision 2030.
The graduation ceremony also included a special segment dedicated to recognizing academic excellence, with awards presented to the best students in each discipline. This highlights the centre’s dedication not only to technical expertise but also to fostering outstanding academic performance. Further testament to ZESA NTC’s leadership in professional development came on May 29, 2025, when it was honoured as the 2025 Outstanding Professional Development Platinum winner at the prestigious Zimbabwe CEO Network Awards Gala Dinner, held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Harare.
