The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced calls for applications for two significant training programs aimed at enhancing expertise in key areas of energy management: the Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) and the Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP). Both intensive training sessions are scheduled to take place in Harare from June 2nd to 4th, 2025, with a mandatory physical examination following on June 6th, 2025.
These initiatives underscore ZERA’s commitment to building national capacity in line with Zimbabwe’s energy efficiency goals and forthcoming regulations. The CMVP training aligns with the National Energy Efficiency Policy 2025 and anticipated Energy Management Regulations, which will mandate regular energy audits and verifications for major energy consumers. Similarly, the CLEP training supports the SI 2018-208 Electricity (Inefficient Lighting Products ban and Labelling) Regulations and broader energy saving objectives.
The Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) program targets individuals with at least five years of experience in industrial operations, technical fields, building services, or energy use related systems. The curriculum is designed for professionals involved in energy management, industrial processes, energy performance optimization, HVAC, plant operations, lighting, and building design and management. Holding a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Certified Energy Auditor (CEA) qualification will be advantageous. The CMVP certification is accredited by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) in the USA, and the training is conducted in partnership with the Institute of Energy Professionals Africa (IEPA).
The Certified Lighting Efficiency Professional (CLEP) training also seeks candidates with a minimum of five years of experience, specifically within lighting systems, building services, or related energy use areas. This program focuses on enhancing expertise in energy management, industrial lighting systems, energy performance, lighting system design, and building management. Like the CMVP certification, the CLEP is accredited by the AEE (USA) and delivered in collaboration with IEPA.
A key component of both training programs is the requirement for participants to submit feedback reports to ZERA after the training, detailing potential energy savings opportunities within their professional practices. This practical application of knowledge is integral to the programs’ objectives.
ZERA has subsidized the training fees for both the CMVP and CLEP programs. Selected participants will be required to pay a fee of US$300.00 prior to the commencement of training.
Interested candidates who meet the specified experience criteria are urged to apply promptly. The application deadline for both programs is May 22nd, 2025.
