A landmark summit focused on accelerating electrification across Africa will take place in Dar es Salaam from January 27-28, 2025. The Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, hosted by the African Development Bank Group, the World Bank Group, the African Union, and the Tanzanian government, aims to mobilize resources and partnerships to achieve universal access to electricity.
The summit will convene African heads of state and government, private sector leaders, development partners, donors, sector experts, civil society organizations, and academics. The primary objective is to secure the financial backing and political commitment necessary for the ambitious Mission 300 plan.
Mission 300, launched in April 2024 by the African Development Bank and the World Bank, aims to provide electricity to 300 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2030. The initiative combines increased infrastructure investment with comprehensive policy reforms throughout the electricity supply chain. These efforts seek to transform lives, improve livelihoods, and strengthen communities across the continent.
With nearly 600 million Africans lacking access to electricity—representing approximately 83 percent of the global energy deficit—the summit underscores the urgent need for accelerated action.
Organizers emphasize that achieving widespread electrification in Africa is not only crucial but also attainable. The summit will serve as a critical platform to drive progress towards this vital goal.
