Puma Energy Zimbabwe has announced plans for a significant expansion across the country, with a focus on investing US$30 million in various development projects to extend its reach to rural areas and support the government’s smart-city concept.
The company unveiled its ambitious growth strategy during the opening of its second Puma retail service station in Masvingo, in collaboration with fast-food chain KFC. The event was attended by Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Ezra Chadzamira, Puma Zimbabwe general manager, Mr Donatien Kodog, and other dignitaries.
Mr Kodog emphasized Puma’s commitment to expanding its business in Zimbabwe through investments in renewable energy and infrastructure over the next three years. The planned projects include solarizing 19 fuel stations, introducing modern lubricant bays, establishing LPG gas kiosks, and refurbishing existing sites within the network. Additionally, the company aims to build at least seven new flagship retail sites by 2024, focusing on major routes, urban areas, and industrial hubs.
With approximately 50 retail sites in operation, including six along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Highway, Puma Energy aims to support local community development and economic growth. The company sees its strategic locations as vital for serving businesses, tourists, entrepreneurs, and motorists while contributing to job creation, economic development, and beneficial partnerships.
Minister Chadzamira highlighted Puma Energy’s role in the country’s economy and stressed the importance of private-public partnerships in addressing poverty and unemployment. He mentioned Puma Energy’s target to contribute $5.2 billion to Zimbabwe’s GDP by 2030 and emphasized the significance of sectors like agriculture, mining, and tourism that rely on efficient fuel supply.
The minister underscored the government’s commitment to combating poverty and unemployment by leveraging private sector-led investments as outlined in the National Development Strategy 1 and Vision 2030. He expressed support for using private-public partnerships to deliver infrastructure in public utilities.
Puma Energy’s expansion plans signify a significant investment in Zimbabwe’s future, aiming to drive economic growth, promote sustainable development, and create opportunities for communities across the country.
