The Radiation Protection Authority of Zimbabwe (RPAZ) held their Inaugural Radiation Safety Conference from 22nd to 24th November 2023 at the Harare International Conference Centre in Harare.

This significant event was dedicated to strengthening radiation protection and safety. The highly anticipated event brought together experts, professionals, and stakeholders from around the world to discuss and explore the latest advancements, achievements, and future directions in the field of radiation protection and safety.

Over the past ten years, significant progress has been made in enhancing radiation safety and protection measures. The conference aimed to celebrate these accomplishments while also providing a platform to discuss and strategize future endeavours in safeguarding workers, the public, and
the environment from the potential hazards of radiation.

The theme of the conference was “Strengthening the Radiation Protection/Safety of Workers, Public and the Environment – A Decade of Accomplishments and Future Endeavours”. Key conference highlights were expert presentations and panel discussions that saw leading international experts and industry professionals share their insights, research findings, and best practices in radiation protection and safety.

The networking opportunities afforded peers, industry leaders, and renowned researchers to connected during dedicated networking sessions, fostering collaborations and partnerships for future projects.

A featured exhibition explored the latest technological advancements, cutting-edge products, and services showcased by industry-leading organisations in the radiation safety sector.

While poster presentations showcased research and innovations, providing a platform for valuable discussions and knowledge exchange.

Delegates at the conference included professionals, researchers, academics and policymakers.

Industry representatives from various fields, included radiation safety officers, emergency response personnel, nuclear medicine operators, regulatory and local authorities, medical practitioners (Diagnostic and Therapeutic Radiology), academics and researchers, and environmental scientists, and government representatives.

The event also celebrated a decade of accomplishments in radiation protection and safety while shaping the path for a safer future.
